Walled gardens

Your counterparties are far less keen than you to use your end-to-end contracting workflow.

They may well insist that you follow their process, not yours.

This poses a problem: the built-in contract repository depends on contracts having stayed within the neat end-to-end walled garden throughout the deal. Anything that originated from outside is doesn't fit.

Why is this a problem?

  1. If your single source of truth only works with the subset of contracts that followed your process, it’s no longer a single source of truth. You need somewhere else for the others.
  2. Those “others” are probably your most important contracts, since you wouldn’t have caved in to the other side if you didn’t really want that deal.

Walled gardens don’t offer much protection if you step outside of them.
